Co-chaired by Vietnamese Deputy Defense Minister, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh and the Secretary of State at the Cambodian Ministry of Defense, General Neang Phat, the exchange featured various meaningful activities in the localities of the three provinces of An Giang (Vietnam) and Takeo and Kandal (Cambodia).

In a friendly atmosphere, various cultural and sports exchange activities were warmly welcomed and heartily joined by the people as well as the border management and protection forces of the two sides. Most noticeable were the free medical screenings for more than 1,000 people and the presentation of 60 breeding cows to needy people and scholarships for 30 poor students.

On this occasion, the Vietnam Border Guard Command built a Vietnam-Cambodian Friendship Communal Hall for the people of Xuan Binh village of Tinh Bien townlet, Tinh Bien district, An Giang province (Vietnam) and Ta Rung hamlet of Phnum Del commune, Kiri Vong district, Takeo province (Cambodia). The communal hall will serve as a common place for people of the two countries along the border area to meet more regularly.  Xuan Binh village and Ta Rung hamlet are twinned and local people now consider each other as members of the same family.

According to the Head of Ta Rung hamlet Han Nean, the people in the two localities are living in solidarity, ready to shoulder difficulties together in farming production, trading activities and preservation of traditional cultural values. Therefore, the localities find it easier to disseminate information on policies, laws and border management.

During the talk and cultural exchange held in Chau Doc city on August 27, Mayor of Takeo province Ouch Phia revealed that the solidarity and close-knit relations between the authorities and people of Takeo and An Giang provinces have been developing for a long time. The two sides have regularly cooperated with each other in various areas, such as health, education, agriculture, trade, search and collection of the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and advisors killed in action in Cambodia, and the border demarcation and border-marker planting.

According to the Political Department of the Vietnam Border Guard Command, at present, there are 23 twinned border units and six twinned residential areas between 10 provinces of Vietnam and nine provinces of Cambodia. The two sides have coordinated well in the border management and protection of the shared border areas.

At the conference on the coordination in border management and protection as part of the exchange, General Hun Manet, Chief of Staff of the Royal Cambodian Army, stressed that the command-level Vietnam-Cambodia Border Friendship Exchange in 2019 resulted from the special friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two forces in charge of border management and protection of the two countries. The event was welcomed by the people along both sides of the shared border. The Cambodian general said, “We will try our best to promote cooperation with the border management and protection forces of Vietnam to complete the tasks of border demarcation and marker planting set by the two governments, contributing to the construction of a borderline of peace, stability, development and prosperity.”

As for the Vietnamese side, Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Chief of the Vietnam Border Guard Command, held that the border friendship exchange 2019 gathered all border protection forces from the two countries and was joined by a large number of people and authorities at all levels from the three provinces of An Giang (Vietnam), Takeo and Kandal (Cambodia).

All of the exchange activities aimed at fostering solidarity, friendship and cooperation, striving to build a shared border of peace and mutual development and turning the Vietnam-Cambodia borderline into an exemplary model among the shared borderlines between Vietnam and other countries.
