The information was announced by Commander of the Lao Cai provincial Border Guard Senior Colonel Nguyen Phi Thanh on January 21.

Last year, due to the complicated development of the COVID-19 pandemic, the two sides did not send their liaison officers to each other’s patrol team to exchange information and border situations of each country as usual, but briefed each other on border situations after concluding their joint patrol.

According to Senior Colonel Nguyen Phi Thanh, soon after the out-break of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lao Cai provincial Border Guard Command and Yunnan province’s border management force promoted information exchange and advised higher levels to issue policies to strictly control border crossing through border gates and paths while setting up border checkpoints to prevent illegal border crossing and the spread of SARS-CoV-2. They also developed different plans to manage border crossing and border trade through the Jincheng-Beishan border gate.

Together with carrying out existing coordination mechanisms, the two sides regularly exchanged information relating to the COVID-19 pandemic situation through different channels, thus developing suitable measures to effectively prevent the disease. They strictly maintained law enforcement in border areas to prevent illegal border crossing, presented medical supplies to assist each other’s efforts in controlling the pandemic, and effectively combated crimes, so as to build a shared borderline of peace, friendship, cooperation, and development.

In the coming time, the two sides will continue raising the effectiveness of their coordination in managing their shared borderline by maintaining information exchanges.
