On November 20, at the Ministry of National Defense’s headquarters, Senior Lieutenant General Pham Ngoc Minh, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, handed over decisions and assigned tasks to them.

Accordingly, Major Tran Duc Huong and Captain Nguyen Phuc Dong will serve as military observers in the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).

In his speech, General Minh asked the two officers to study and implement the Party’s, State’s and Army’s standpoints and diplomatic policies, and observe the Vietnamese military discipline as well as regulations of UNMISS and laws of the country.

They should also actively promote solidarity among troops and officials of other countries working at UNMISS, effectively support the operation of the Vietnamese level-2 field hospital, and ensure complete safety in human and equipment during their task performances, he added.

For his part, Major Huong, on behalf of the two peacekeepers, expressed his honor and pride to represent the Vietnam People’s Army to work at UNMISS and promised that they would overcome any difficulties to successfully fulfill assigned tasks.

On this occasion, the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations reported General Minh on the performances of Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Viet Hung and Captain Pham Van Hao who had finished their missions at UNMISS. According to the report, the two Vietnamese peacekeepers’ contributions to UNMISS have been appreciated by the UN.

General Minh highly valued efforts and records of the two returning officers, and urged them to further contribute to developing the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations and share their experiences with those who are about to join UN peacekeeping missions in the time to come.
