The event was chaired by Sr. Lt. Gen. Hoang Xuan Chien, Deputy Defense Minister, Head of the Intersectoral Working Group, Head of the MND’s Steering Committee for the Participation in U.N. Peacekeeping Operations.

Under the decisions, Colonel Nguyen Thi Lien will work as officer in charge of civil-military coordination while Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Duc Doanh will be an operational staff officer at UNISFA.
Assigning tasks to the two officers, Gen. Chien asked them to embrace and strictly implement the Party, State, and military’s foreign policy, strictly observe the military discipline, U.N. regulations and the host country’s law as well as other regulations on ensuring security and safety of personnel, weapons, and equipment.
The general requested them to soon grasp local situation and start their duties and responsibilities at the U.N. mission.
He also asked the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations (VNDPKO) to cooperate with other agencies and units in the whole military to make breakthroughs in creating resources and preparing replacement forces in both individual and unit forms to meet higher demands of the U.N. and pay due attention to raising command of foreign language of to-be-deployed peacekeepers, particularly those holding individual position.

VNDPKO Director Maj. Gen. Pham Manh Thang said that to prepare replacement forces, the department has selected highly qualified officers with U.N. peacekeeping knowledge, good command of foreign language and good fitness. The unit has also organized various training courses following requirements of the U.N. while sending officers abroad for training.
The two officers deployed to the U.N. mission this time have participated in two major peacekeeping exercises hosted by Vietnam in 2023, including the Competency Evaluation for Prospective Peacekeeper Program (CEPPP) and the Vietnam-India Bilateral Army Exercise (VINBAX). Attentively, Col. Lien was assigned by Vietnam’s Engineering Company Rotation 1 at UNISFA to civil-military coordination work.
On behalf of the two officers, Col. Lien affirmed their determination to fulfilling their tasks and promised to uphold solidarity, pro-actively cooperate with colleagues and excellently accomplish any assignments.
