In his closing remarks, Gen. Liu stressed that the exercise was successful and that the Chinese military is willing to enhance understanding, trust, and cooperation with foreign militaries in order to jointly maintaining peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and the world.

Congratulating the Joint Staff Department of the Central Military Commission of China on the successful organization of the exercise, Gen. Binh confirmed that the event was a chance for participating forces to exchange, learn from each other, and consolidate trust and mutual understanding. This was a premise for them to further boost defense collaboration, making active contribution to upholding regional and global peace, stability, security, and development.

The Vietnamese general highly praised the thorough preparations, organization, and operation of the exercise of the host China. He also spoke highly of participating forces’ active practice, overcoming difficulties and challenges to complete the set program and meet all targeted requirements.

In this joint exercise, the Vietnam People’s Army delegation engaged in field exercises on land and at sea. On arriving in Zhanjiang, the anti-terrorism force of the Vietnam People’s Army got familiar with the training ground and excellently fulfilled all contents of the anti-terrorism exercise. In the field exercise at sea, Vietnamese naval officers and soldiers participated in ship control simulation training; protection of ship’s vitality; practice of giving first aid to wounded soldiers and operating helicopter deck equipment, anti-piracy; checking the signal connection among ships, and cultural, sports, and culinary exchanges. Frigate 016-Quang Trung also excelled at such contents as maneuvering to the designated anchorage, guarding the anchorage, fighting pirates, maneuvering in formation, and taking aerial photos.

Earlier the same day, Lt. Gen. Nguyen Trong Binh paid a courtesy call on Sr. Lt. Gen. Liu Chenli and received Sr. Lt. Gen. Wang Xiubin, Commander of the Southern Theater of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army.

At the meeting with Gen. Liu, Gen. Binh underlined that on the basis of the Vietnam - China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, the bilateral defense cooperation has constantly developed in an extensive, intensive, effective, and practical manner and become one of the pillars in the two countries’ relationship.

The guest hoped that the host will continue to pay attention to directing Chinese competent agencies to work closely with the Vietnamese counterparts to strengthen exchange of delegations at all levels, particularly high-level, and effectively maintain agreed cooperation mechanisms.

Gen. Liu emphasized that China always treasures the relations with Vietnam. He highly appreciated the outcomes of the bilateral defense cooperation gained over the past time in accordance with the common perceptions of the two countries’ senior leaders on continuing to foster and deepen the two nations’ comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. He expressed his wish that the two sides will further all-level delegation exchange, current cooperation mechanisms, and expand cooperation in new fields that both sides have strengths and demands.

In his reception for Gen. Wang, Gen. Binh highly praised the Southern Theater for thorough preparations for the “Peace and Friendship - 2023” exercise. He believed that based on the fruitful ties between the two parties and states, the defense relations between Vietnam and China will further develop and reap more achievements.

He hoped the Chinese general will keep directing affiliates of the theater to team up with the Vietnamese side to make the cooperative ties in the coming time more substantive.

For his part, Gen. Wang highly valued the great efforts and active engagement of the Vietnam People’s Army delegation in the exercise. He stressed that he will do his utmost to help boost the bilateral defense ties.

In the framework of the exercise, Lt. Gen. Nguyen Trong Binh visited officers and soldiers of the Naval Service and Command Corps of Vietnam. He lauded them for their high sense of responsibility, effective and active coordination with their foreign peers and successful completion of the exercise’s contents, receiving high appreciation from the host and participating forces.

On November 22 afternoon, after the field exercise at sea, the 016-Quang Trung returned in Zhanjiang Military Port for other activities of its ongoing overseas journey.
