Addressing the event, Gen. Hoi congratulated the Lao People’s Army, as well as the Lao Embassy’s staff on their traditional New Year festival. He stressed that in 2018, Vietnam and Laos continued to develop their relations in all aspects, especially in defense cooperation.

He also believed that the bilateral defense relations between the two countries would develop more intensively, effectively and practically in the time to come, affirming that the Foreign Relations Department under the Vietnamese MND would try its best to contribute to the development of this relationship.

For his part, Lao Ambassador to Vietnam Thongsavanh Phomvihane thanked Gen. Hoi for his wishes. He highly appreciated the outcomes of the good relations and comprehensive cooperation over the past time between the two countries in general and the two militaries in particular.

The Lao Ambassador defined that 2019 is a year of many important activities of the two countries, including the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Lao People’s Army (January 20), the 75th founding anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army, the 65th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory (May 7), the 70th traditional day of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers in Laos (October 30, 1949). These events are the hallmarks in the special solidarity and relationship between the two Parties, two States, two militaries, and two peoples, he noted.

Ambassador Thongsavanh Phomvihane promised that in his position, he would do his utmost to contribute to further promoting cooperation between the two countries.
