The delegates also discussed some issues related to the organization of the event.
Speaking at the event, General Ngo Xuan Lich highly praised and appreciated preparations of the military agencies and units. He stressed that the ADMM Retreat that will take place from February 18 to 20 in Hanoi is one of the ASEAN's main defense-military conferences and activities. These activities will be hosted by the Ministry of National Defense when the country assumes the role of ASEAN Chair in 2020.
The event paves the way for the organization of ADMM and ADMM+ conferences by the end of this year. The successful organization of the ADMM Retreat and other activities and defense-military conferences of ASEAN in 2020 is also an important mission of the defense relations service, contributing to the overall successful implementation of the Party's and the State's foreign policy, he added.
The Defense Minister asked relevant agencies and units to prepare for the event and ensure security and health service in the context of the effects of the acute respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
At the meeting, the delegates discussed many contents related to the external affairs activities of the Ministry of National Defense (MND) in 2020, as well as other activities and meetings hosted by the MND in 2020 when Vietnam assumes the role of ASEAN Chair and non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UN Security Council) for the period of 2020-2021.
General Lich requested all relevant agencies and units to continue to disseminate information related to the country's position, images of people and the Vietnam People's Army to international friends in 2020.
* The same day, a delegation of the MND, led by Senior Lieutenant General Tran Quang Phuong inspected preparations for the ADMM Retreat at the Vietnam Military History Museum.
Lieutenant Colonel Mai Thi Ngoc, Director of the museum, reported the results of the preparations for the event to the delegates and made some recommendations about the reception of delegations.
According to Gen. Phuong, earlier, Defense Minister General Ngo Xuan Lich had a direction to ask relevant agencies and units to ensure the best preparations for the meeting. Gen. Phuong also requested the museum to coordinate with other agencies and units to ensure a successful reception for the delegations.
He also asked the museum to focus on helping the delegations learn more about the history, the establishment and the development of Vietnam People's Army; the victories of the Vietnamese military and people in Dien Bien Phu and Ho Chi Minh campaigns, thereby leaving good impressions of the Vietnamese army and people on international friends.
