MND prepares for ADMM Retreat
PANO – A conference was held on February 7 at the Ministry of National Defense (MND)’s headquarters to review preparations for the ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting (ADMM) Retreat.
Deputy Defense Minister, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, chaired the event. Also present at the conference were Senior Lieutenant General Tran Quang Phuong, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) and Lieutenant General Le Huy Vinh, Deputy Chief of the VPA’s General Staff.
The ADMM Retreat will be held from February 18 to 20 in Hanoi. It is one of the ASEAN defense and military conferences’ activities held by Vietnam this year as the country takes on the role of ASEAN Chair.

At the conference, the MND’s Department of Foreign Relations, a the permanent organ of the ministry’s Steering Committee on ASEAN Year 2020, and relevant units reported their preparations for the ADMM Retreat.
Addressing the event, General Vinh highly valued the great efforts of the military units in preparing for the ADMM Retreat.
He underlined that the success of the ADMM Retreat would contribute to the success of the other ASEAN defense and military conferences hosted by the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense in 2020.
The deputy minister also directed relevant military units and agencies to make preparations while ensuring security and safety for the ADMM Retreat.
On this occasion, the conference’s participants also discussed other contents relating to external activities of the MND and other conferences that will be hosted by the MND when Vietnam serves as both the ASEAN Chair in 2020 and a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in the 2020-2021 period.
On the same day, General Vinh also checked preparations for the ADMM Retreat at the Melia Hanoi Hotel.
