At the meeting, General Vinh highly appreciated Military Region 7’s achievements in implementing international cooperation and external defense relations work over the past time. Particularly, the military region has assisted units under the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces in building and upgrading their barracks and provided free health check-ups, medicines and gifts to disadvantaged Cambodian people.

Recently, the armed forces in region 7 have given medical supplies to the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, Vietnamese expatriates in Cambodia, and Laos’ Champasak province, supporting their fight against COVID-19.

Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh speaks at the meeting

The Deputy Defense Minister asked Military Region 7 to promote external defense relations activities. In the short-term, the Department of Foreign Relations, Military Region 7, and the Border Guard Command were urged to make thorough preparations for the Vietnam-Cambodia Border Defense Friendship Exchange and host activities to mark the 43rd anniversary of Prime Minister Hun Sen’s arrival in Vietnam to build a revolutionary army and then return home to topple the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime. The celebration and exchange activities are aimed to contribute to strengthening the friendship between the two militaries and peoples.

He also urged Military Region 7 to promote friendship with the units under the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and prepare to set up cooperation with units of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces.

The first edition of the Vietnam-Cambodia Border Defense Friendship Exchange was slated for late June. However, the schedule will be adjusted due to the current development of the COVID-19 pandemic. Military Region 7 and the Border Guard Command have instructed agencies and units to make preparations for the event.
