The welcoming ceremony was hosted by the Coast Guard Region 3 Command, with representatives of relevant Vietnamese agencies and units and the U.S. side in attendance.
During their stay in Ho Chi Minh City from November 1 to 5, the cutter’s officers and crew-members are scheduled to pay a courtesy call on leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, visit a ship of Coast Guard Region 3, take part in sports activities and professional exchanges, agree on the content of joint training, visit local cultural sites and participate in exchanges aboard the cutter.
The two sides are also expected to conduct joint training at sea on November 5 before the vessel departs from Sai Gon Hiep Phuoc Port, concluding its visit to Ho Chi Minh City.
The Ho Chi Minh City Port Border Guard Command has focused on carrying out entry and exit procedures for the ship and its crew-members in accordance with regulations, while deploying personnel and equipment to monitor the cutter’s movements.
It has also maintained patrols and surveillance, with personnel stationed to secure the berth, surrounding waters and key locations, ensuring readiness to respond promptly to any arising situations.
The reception and security arrangements for the USCGC Bertholf demonstrate the pro-active approach, sense of responsibility and close coordination of the Ho Chi Minh City Border Guard Command with relevant forces in carrying out defense diplomacy and managing and safeguarding sovereignty and security in maritime border areas and at port border gates.
These efforts also contribute to promoting friendship and cooperation between Viet Nam and the U.S.
