The unit was welcomed in a solemn ceremony organized right at Noi Bai International Airport.

In the program, they movingly sang the national anthem in the motherland after completing the noble international mission in Abyei.

Addressing the event, Senior Colonel Pham Manh Thang, Director of Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations (VNDPKO), warmly welcomed the peacekeepers and sent a special congratulation to them on their excellent fulfillment of duties, returning with absolute safety and in a good health condition.

He hailed 11 members of the unit for volunteering to take on international duties as personnel of the Engineering Company Rotation 2.

The VNDPKO director spoke highly of the Rotation 1’s achievements in the context of shortage of materials, harsh weather conditions, and many difficulties in daily life. He highlighted their solidarity, and utmost efforts to outstandingly complete all assignments, deserving the trust of the Party, State, and people.

He also highly praised the unit’s support for local community, contributing to bringing a brighter life for people in Abyei and improving the training quality in the garrisoned locality. Their good deeds for local people such as giving health treatment, providing gardening methods, opening free classes, building classrooms, libraries, upgrading roads, building volunteer facilities, received high applause from the UNISFA Mission’s leaders. Attentively, all 184 members of the unit were awarded with U.N. medals.

Col. Thang emphasized that the unit helped spread good images of Uncle Ho’s soldiers and Vietnamese blue-berets, create close bonds between local authorities, people and Vietnamese peacekeepers, thus creating favorable conditions for other rotations to perform their duties at UNISFA Mission.

Engineering Company Rotation 1 arriving home safely

In his speech, Sr. Col. Mac Duc Trong, Chief of the Engineering Company Rotation 1, proudly said that the unit excellently completed their duties in the 15-month tenure. He confirmed that the Vietnamese engineers confirmed their competence and capability in doing different missions, including the most difficult and challenging ones.

Given that the unit always promoted responsibility in performing their tasks and assisting local people, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Quang Tuyen, Political Commissar of the Engineering Company Rotation 1, said that the unit left deep impressions on international friends in general and Abyei people in particular, helping introduce a friendly, humane, and responsible Vietnam and its people.
