At the meeting, Gen. Chien emphasized that the Vietnam-Cambodia relationship has been continuously strengthened and developed, bringing practical benefits to both countries. The Vietnamese deputy defense minister expressed his delight at the outcomes of the bilateral defense ties over the past time, especially in the fields of delegation exchange, training, dissemination of the solidarity between the two countries, and border management and protection.

The Vietnamese defense leader congratulated the Cambodian diplomat on his successful completion of tenure in Vietnam, contributing to strengthening the good neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-term sustainability between the two countries in general and the bilateral defense ties in particular. He acknowledged and highly appreciated the Cambodian officer’s active contribution to carrying out cooperation in human resource training, organizing such important events as the “Vietnam-Cambodia, Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Year 2022,” “the first Vietnam-Cambodia Border Defense Friendship Exchange,” celebrations of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen’s journey to overthrow the Pol Pot genocidal regime, and the first Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia Border Defense Friendship Exchange. These events held historic significance, affirming the two countries and two militaries’ political determination in constantly consolidating and lifting the Vietnam-Cambodia relationship in particular and the relations among three Indochina countries to a new height. 

The host expected that in any position in the future, Col. Rem Kann will continue to actively make contribution to boosting the relationship between the two countries and two militaries.

For his part, the Cambodian diplomat thanked leaders and relevant agencies of the Vietnamese Defense Ministry for supporting and creating favorable conditions for him to complete assigned duties in Vietnam. He said that after the COVID-19 pandemic, the two sides have intensively and effectively carried out the bilateral defense activities, including their close coordination in organizing the first Vietnam-Cambodia Border Defense Friendship Exchange in May 2022 and the first Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia Border Defense Friendship Exchange in December 2023. 

Expressing his special sentiment to Vietnam and its people, Col. Rem Kann pledged to share his experience to help his successor continue to make contribution to cultivating the solidarity and close relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia.
