Deputy Defense Minister receives US Assistant Secretary of Defense
PANO – Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, Deputy Defense Minister, hosted a reception for Randall Schriver, the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Asian and Pacific Security Affairs, at the defense ministry’s headquarters on October 9.
At the reception, General Vinh stressed that the bilateral defense ties between the two countries witnessed fine development over the past time, especially in exchange of delegations at all levels, settlement of war-left consequences, training cooperation, and sharing of experience in joining UN peacekeeping operations.
Notably, the two sides have launched the dioxin treatment project at Bien Hoa Airport following the success of the previous dioxin treatment project in Da Nang Airport and signed an agreement to allocate US sponsorship for people with disabilities in the seven Agent Orange (AO)/Dioxin-affected provinces of Vietnam, he added.
For his part, the guest conveyed US Secretary of Defense Mark Esper’s hope to visit Vietnam at the soonest time. Through the visit, the two countries would discuss future cooperation programs, contributing to boosting the bilateral defense ties as part of the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership.
