Deputy Defense Minister hosts UNDP Resident Representative in Vietnam

At the meeting, General Vinh highly valued the good results in the cooperation between the UNDP and the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense in war consequences relief, UN peacekeeping operations, and other activities hosted by Vietnam during its ASEAN Chairmanship 2020 and non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council in the 2020-2021 period.

General Vinh affirmed that he believes that regular delegation exchanges between the two sides will help develop the cooperation between the UN, UNDP and the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense. During the exchanges, cooperation orientations are hoped to be discussed and agreed on while pending issues will be settled effectively and practically in the time ahead.

For her part, Ms. Caitlin Wiesen congratulated Vietnam on successfully controlling COVID-19 with great contributions from the Vietnam People’s Army. She also spoke highly of the role of Vietnamese peacekeepers in COVID-19 prevention and control.

Also at the meeting, General Vinh and Ms. Caitlin Wiesen discussed preparations for an upcoming international conference on women in UN peacekeeping operations and cooperation in relieving war consequences in Vietnam.
