Defense minister receives Canadian ambassador
PANO – Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang hosted a reception for Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam Shawn Perry Steil on October 11 in Hanoi.
At the reception, General Giang underscored that defense cooperation plays an important role in the Vietnam-Canada comprehensive partnership. Over the past time, the defense cooperation has been promoted according to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Military Training and Cooperation Program signed in 2018, MoU on defense cooperation signed in 2019, defense cooperation plan for the 2021-2023 period signed in 2021, with positive outcomes in some fields, including dialogues and consultations, delegation exchange, training, U.N. peacekeeping, and marine security, among others.
The Vietnamese defense minister also hoped that Ambassador Shawn Perry Steil would continue to make contribution to the relations in the fields, while expanding cooperation to other potential ones, on the basis of each country’s interests, focusing on delegation exchange at all levels, dialogues, and consultations, to name but a few.

For his part, Ambassador Shawn Perry Steil thanked General Giang for his reception, affirming that in his new position, he will do his utmost to promote the bilateral relations and deepen the defense cooperation.
