Gen. Phan Van Giang and Mr. Nikolai Kolesnik

It was in the framework of the meeting between Party General Secretary To Lam and Russian intellectuals, scholars, and experts who had supported Vietnam in the past.

Gen. Giang congratulated the Russian veteran on the 80th celebration of Russia’s Victory in the Great Patriotic War. He emphasized that the indomitable spirit of the Soviet people became a flame lighting the way, giving strength to the Vietnamese people to overcome countless challenges, reaching the final victory in the resistance war to defend the Fatherland.

The Vietnamese defense chief affirmed that with the spirit of “When drinking water, remember its source,” the Vietnamese people are always grateful to the whole-hearted and heartfelt assistance of experts from the former Soviet Union and Russia today in the struggle for national salvation, reunification and ongoing national construction.

For his part, Mr. Nikolai Kolesnik sent congratulations to Vietnam on successfully organizing the 50th anniversary of the South Liberation and National Reunification Day. The Russian official expressed thanks to the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense for their sentiment for Russian veterans. He confirmed that he would continue to exert all-out efforts to cultivate and develop the friendship between the people of the two countries and make positive contribution to the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia.
