General Giang receives Thai Ambassador to Vietnam Nikorndej Balankura.

At the meeting, the Vietnamese defense chief congratulated the guest on the appointment as Thai ambassador to Vietnam and expressed his belief that the Thai diplomat will have a successful term of office, contributing to bolstering the intensive strategic partnership between the two countries in general and the bilateral defense cooperation in particular.

General Giang stressed that Vietnam always treasures its relationship with neighboring countries, ASEAN member states and enhances its comprehensive cooperation with Thailand.

He also spoke highly of the Thai Government’s efforts in effective COVID-19 control, highly valued the country’s role, position and active and pro-active contribution to regional issues. He wished Thailand to continue bringing into play its role in enhancing ASEAN solidarity, maintaining ASEAN’s central role, and building a stronger ASEAN Community, closely coordinating with other member states to uphold the grouping’s common stance on regional issues, maintenance of peace and stability, adherence to international law, and guarantee of security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea.

Defense Minister Giang highlighted the consolidation of the bilateral defense ties over the past time, bringing practical efficiency with a focus on exchanging delegations, especially high-level ones, effectively maintaining cooperation mechanisms such as defense policy dialogue, joint working group on military-defense cooperation, bilateral naval consultation, cooperation between arms and services, joint working group on air force cooperation, and exchanges between strategic research agencies.

General Giang hoped that in his position, Ambassador Nikorndej Balankura would pay attention to strengthening the bilateral relations, including the bilateral defense ties, thus deepening the Vietnam - Thailand intensive strategic partnership for the interests of both countries and the region.

For his part, the Thai diplomat thanked the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense for creating favorable conditions for Thai defense attachés to complete their tasks. He also congratulated Vietnam on its efforts and effective control of COVID-19.

He pledged to work hard to reinforce the bilateral relations in all fields, including defense cooperation.
