Gen. Giang hosts visiting Chief-of-Staff of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force General Koji Yamazaki

Gen. Giang, member of the Party Central Committee, permanent member of the Central Military Commission, Chief-of-the-General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy-Defense Minister, made that confirmation at a reception for the visiting Chief-of-Staff of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force General Koji Yamazaki on January 8 at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense.

For his part, General Yamazaki Koji affirmed Vietnam is a very important partner of Japan and he highlighted the two countries’ maintenance of all-level delegation exchange, particularly at the high level and the two militaries’ cooperation in United Nations peacekeeping, humanitarian aid and disaster relief.

The Japanese general also stressed that the enhancement of Vietnam-Japan and Japan-ASEAN ties would play a vital role in maintaining regional peace and stability.

At the talks

Earlier in the day, talks took place between the Vietnamese General Staff delegation, led by Lieutenant General Pham Hong Huong, Deputy-Chief-of-the-General Staff and the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force delegation, led by General Koji Yamazaki.

During the talks, the two sides reviewed their cooperation in the past and mapped out future cooperation between the two militaries with a focus on UN peacekeeping, humanitarian aid and disaster relief as well as military medicine.

Gen. Huong believed that the Japanese delegation’s visit to Vietnam would help foster the two countries’ friendship and cooperative ties and develop the two militaries’ ties in an intensive, effective and practical manner.

Pleased at the fruitful ties between Vietnam and Japan and their militaries, General Yamazaki Koji hoped that the defense cooperation would become a pillar in the bilateral ties.
