The delegation consisting of three top experts in the health sector, the virology, and the biotechnology fields are in Vietnam to assist functional agencies of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense in the COVID-19 fight.

Speaking at the session, Lieutenant General, Prof., Dr. Mai Hong Bang, Director of Military Central Hospital 108, briefed the Cuban experts on the hospital’s structure and operations as well as its current international cooperation programs.

He held that Vietnam and Cuba have actively enhanced collaboration in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Both sides have given medical supplies to each other while actively implementing cooperation activities with a focus on researching and transferring medicine and vaccine manufacturing technologies for special treatment of the SARS CoV-2 virus.

The hospital’s director hoped that the working visit of the Cuban medical experts will contribute to accelerating defense cooperation in general and the military medical sector in particular.

At the event, the two sides exchanged experience in preventing and controlling the COVID-19 pandemic and other diseases, and at the same time discussed the usage of medicines researched and manufactured by the Caribbean country for COVID-19 treatment.

Previously, the Cuban Government presented thousands of interferon Alfa 2B vials, which have helped treat patients infected with COVID-19 in Cuba to assist Vietnam in its COVID-19 fight. The medicines were transported to Quang Nam province and Da Nang city for disease treatment.
