The event was attended by representatives of relevant agencies of the MND and Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Lianys Torres Rivera.

Delivering a report at the event, Major General Hoang Van Luong, Deputy Director of the Military Medical University, revealed that a group of three top experts in the health sector, the virology, and the biotechnology fields were sent to Vietnam to assist the MND’s functional agencies in the COVID-19 fight. After fulfilling the regulated medical quarantine time, the Cuban medical experts have been actively working with the Military Medical University and functional agencies of the Vietnamese MND to share experience on the COVID-19 prevention and control as well as treatment.

In the time to come, the two sides will continue to accelerate collaboration in other sectors such as training, treatment, scientific research, and technological exchange on the basis of their strength.

On behalf of the Cuban medical experts, the head delegate, Colonel Miguel Jesus Seijas Gonzalez, who is also Director of the Central Military Hospital of Carlos Finley, thanked the Vietnamese side for creating favorable conditions for them, expressed their honor to undertake missions in Vietnam, and pledged to complete their assigned tasks. He said the Vietnamese Military Medical University has similar facilities and training programs as those of the Cuban military medical sector. This is the basis for more effective cooperation between the two sides in the future.

Speaking at the session, General Don affirmed that the two sides have actively accelerated cooperation since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic by sharing invaluable experience in coping with the disease. The deputy defense minister also expressed his thanks for the medical supplies of the Cuban people recently.

Highly valuing results of the working session between the Cuban medical experts and Vietnamese counterparts, General Don believed that the assistance of the Cuban medical experts will contribute to boosting cooperation between the military medical forces of the two defense ministries.

After the working session, Senior Lieutenant General Tran Don and Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh co-chaired a courtesy reception for the Cuban military medical experts.
