Countries to foster cooperation on terrorism prevention
PANO – Senior Lieutenant General Le Chiem, member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Defense Minister, leading a high-ranking Vietnamese defense delegation, attended a meeting of heads of special services, security agencies and law-enforcement organizations in Moscow, Russia, from November 6-8, at the invitation of Russian Director of the Federal Security Service Alexander Bortnikov.
At the opening ceremony, Russian President Vladimir Putin sent greetings to the participants in the meeting while General Alexander Bortnikov and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov delivered keynote speeches.
During the three-day meeting,125 delegations from 80 countries and five regional and international organizations focused their discussions on urgent issues, including international terrorism, security, cyber security and security protection of large-scale international events. They also shared information relating to terrorism situations and terrorists’ methods to recruit new members and conduct terror activities as well as exchanged experiences and measures to counter terrorism. The participants contributed new approaches to strengthen collaboration among countries in the fight against terrorism.
The meeting issued a joint statement in support for the UN’s resolutions on counterterrorism. It showed participating countries’ consensus to promote intelligence and information exchange through international data banks as well as foster international cooperation in preventing the development of terrorism and use of IT and telecoms for terror acts.
Vietnam’s participation in the meeting demonstrated the effective cooperation between the Vietnam Ministry of National Defense and the Federal Security Service as well as Russia’s appreciation of the role of Vietnam Defense Ministry. It also showed Vietnam’s support for multilateral initiatives, initiated by Russia, contributing to effectively promoting the Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership.
At a working session on cyber security and information safety, Vietnamese representative’s report on international cooperation in preventing computer incidents which drew much attention of participating delegations.
