The visit of the Vietnamese delegation took place in a special context as the two countries have recently upgraded their relationship to the comprehensive strategic partnership. The Vietnamese deputy chief of the General Staff stated that in its foreign policy, Vietnam always treasures the relationship with Australia and highly appreciates the country's potential and position in international arena.

He added that leaders of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense and the General Staff highly appreciate the outcomes in cooperation between the two militaries over the past time. The bilateral defense cooperation has been implemented in accordance with the signed documents, such as the Memorandum of Understanding on Defense Cooperation in 2010, the Joint Vision Statement on Promoting Defense Cooperation in 2018, and most recently, the Agreement on Peacekeeping Partnership between the two governments. The Vietnam People's Army highly values the effective cooperation and support from the ADF in such areas as training and U.N. peacekeeping.

The guest affirmed that cooperation in training is a highlight in the bilateral defense cooperation. Australia remains the leading country in providing assistance to enhance Vietnamese troops’ English command and professional capability. So far, more than 3,500 Vietnamese individuals have received training assistance from Australia.

Gen. Anh suggested the two sides exchange practical experience in training and believed that with the support of senior leaders and leaders of two militaries, the bilateral defense ties will continue to develop for the benefits of each country and for regional and global peace, stability, and development.
