During the event, the two sides agreed that the bilateral ties between the two navies have been expanded over the past years. Accordingly, both sides regularly sent delegations to joint activities such as workshops on counter-piracy and search and rescue at sea, young officers exchanges of the navies of the Western Pacific, maritime training exercises, and friendly port calls of naval ships, to name but a few.
These activities contributed to maintaining peace and stability in the region and realizing the signed memorandums of understanding (MoU) on bilateral defense exchange and cooperation of the two countries.
In addition, both sides also exchanged information related to their operations and maritime issues of mutual concern. They proposed several cooperative contents in the time to come, particularly the participation of the JMSDF to defense external activities hosted by the VPN in 2020.
The same day, the Japanese naval staff officers paid a courtesy call on the VPN leadership.
