Vietnam, Japan promote border cooperation
PANO - A delegation from the Japanese Ministry of Defense led by Major General Endo Makoto, Head of the Infantry Department of Fuji Training School, on November 12 had a working session with the Border Guard Command of Lao Cai province.
The event was part of the ongoing 11th Vietnam – Japan defense exchange program, taking place from November 10 – 16 in Vietnam.
Addressing the event, Senior Colonel Do Ngoc Tuan, Chief of the Lao Cai provincial Border Guard Command briefed the delegates on the situation in the border areas of Lao Cai province. It shares 182.086km of border line with the Chinese province of Yunnan. Over the past years, the provincial border guard command has strictly and simultaneously implemented missions in border areas, closely controlled immigration at border gates, fought crime, and maintained security and order in border areas.
Tuan added that the unit has proactively carried out border guard external affairs in various forms and creative measures, thereby contributing to building a borderline of friendship, stability, and development.
For his part, Gen. Makoto thanked the host for the warm reception and expressed his wish that Japan and Vietnam would further boost bilateral ties, especially in defense cooperation in the coming time.
On the same day, the delegation visited the border guard station at the Lao Cai International Border Gate.
