He underlined that the upgrade of the two countries' relationship to a “comprehensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia and the world” in November last year laid a solid foundation for further development of the bilateral defense cooperation in the time to come.

For his part, Sr. Lt. Gen. Hoang Xuan Chien sent congratulations to all generals, officers and soldiers of the Japanese Self-Defense Forces on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of its establishment; stressing that Vietnam-Japan defense cooperation has seen steady development, in which cooperation mechanisms have been increasingly expanded and deepened in a substantive manner.

The Vietnamese deputy defense minister expressed his hope that the Vietnam-Japan cooperative relations and the defense ties would move to new heights, for peace, stability, development and prosperity of each country as well as the whole region.

Earlier, Sr. Lt. Gen. Hoang Xuan Chien and Ambassador Ito Naoki discussed the results of Vietnam-Japan defense cooperation over the past time and mapped out cooperation orientations during Ito Naoki’s term of office in Viet Nam.
