This year’s “Emergency Area” contest drew the participation of six contingents from Belarus, Myanmar, Mali, Russia, Congo, and the host Vietnam, as well as observers from India.
The contest’s organization board directed relevant units to promptly prepare for and closely work with representatives from the Russian Defense Ministry to organize the competition in line with regulations and as scheduled with absolute safety. Meanwhile, the participating athletes and teams showed their determination to achieve the highest results, while doing their utmost in promoting fair-play spirit and mutual understanding and solidarity.
In his closing speech, General Nghia underlined that Vietnam’s hosting of contests of the Army Games in 2021 and 2022 affirmed the VPA’s new development in defense diplomacy and international integration as well as the country’s foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification of relations.
Vietnam is one of countries regularly facing growing impacts of climate change and natural disasters. Annually, the country faces tens of tropical storms and hundreds of threats from the nature and human activities. Therefore, the VPA hosts the “Emergency Area” contest to not only give an opportunity for participating troops to share their experience and skills, but also improve search and rescue capacity of the participants for peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world.
General Nghia also affirmed that the success of the contest came from the timely instruction of leaders of the Vietnamese Government, Ministry of National Defense, cooperation among ministries and central and local agencies as well as the wholehearted support of Russia and participating contingents.
The deputy chief of the VPA’s General Staff congratulated contingents participating in the contest in Vietnam and thanked the jury, referees, competitors, observers, and service-people for their contribution to the success of the event. As a result, Vietnam and Russia came first to bag gold medals, followed by Belarus and Mali.
Addressing the ceremony, Lieutenant General Igor Kolesnikov expressed his sincere thanks to Vietnam in general and all competitors and relevant forces and underlined that the contest concluded successfully. It showed Vietnam’s capacity in organizing such major military sports events.
