Lieutenant General Tran Cong Chinh, Political Commissar of the General Department of Defense Intelligence, presides over AMICLC-1. |
AMIC, an initiative proposed by Vietnam during the 17th ASEAN Military Intelligence Meeting (AMIM-17) in September 2020, represents a cooperative framework for military intelligence, a symbol of unity, and the commitment to regional peace among ASEAN nations. This idea has received great support from ASEAN member states.
Through extensive consultations and advocacy during staff officers' meetings, bilateral dialogues, and AMIM sessions, Vietnam and ASEAN members reached a consensus on the AMIC Concept Document, which was formally approved in June 2023 at AMIM-20 and included in the Joint Declaration of the 20th ASEAN Chiefs of Defense Forces Meeting (ACDFM-20).
The operational launch of AMIC marks a significant advancement in ASEAN military intelligence cooperation, promoting a more comprehensive, effective, and practical approach to intelligence sharing. This enhances the ability to respond promptly to both traditional and non-traditional security threats, fostering a peaceful, stable, and cooperative environment that supports prosperity and a resilient ASEAN Community.
