Speaking at a discussion session, the Head of the Vietnamese Mission to the UN, Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga, said that, in the context of current unpredictable and complex challenges, the UN should seek comprehensive approaches, promote close coordination, place people at the center of the process of making and implementing policies, take specific measures to prevent and handle conflict on the basis of the UN Charter and international law while avoiding the use of force or threat to use force, and fully respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity of each country.

The Vietnamese Ambassador reconfirmed Vietnam’s commitment to contribute positively to regional and international peace and security, as well as the country’s consistent policy to peacefully settle disputes, including the ones in the East Sea (South China Sea), on the basis of international law, particularly the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, and full respect of legal and diplomatic processes while trying its best to soon reach the code of conduct in the East Sea (COC).

Regarding Vietnam’s contribution to international peace and security, she revealed that Vietnam is finalizing the preparation for its first level-2 field hospital to soon deploy it to the UN Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan.
