Built on the long-standing friendship between the two parties, countries, and peoples throughout their struggles for national independence and development, Vietnam-China relations have continued to maintain a positive development tendency in recent years, achieving significant historical results. Notably, the political trust between the two sides has been strengthened, proven through regular close strategic exchanges between senior leaders of the two parties and countries.
Following the official visit of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to China in October 2022 and the state visit to Vietnam by General Secretary and President Xi Jinping in December 2023, from August 18 to 20, 2024, Party General Secretary and President To Lam made a very successful state visit to China. A key highlight of this visit was the joint statement on further strengthening the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries and building a community with a shared future.

Under the strategic guidance of senior leaders of both parties and countries, the cooperation between the two countries has been widely expanded across all levels and fields. Notably, economic, trade, and investment cooperation has flourished. To date, Vietnam is the largest trading partner in ASEAN and the fifth-largest trading partner of China. In the first eight months of 2024, the bilateral import-export turnover reached USD 130.78 billion, an increase of 25%; Chinese investment in Vietnam has reached USD 1.7 billion, continuing to lead in new project approvals with 662 projects. As of the end of August 2024, China has invested USD 29 billion in Vietnam, ranking sixth among 148 countries and territories investing in Vietnam, with 4,865 projects. Chinese investors have participated in 19 out of 21 economic sectors with FDI and in 55 out of 63 provinces and cities in Vietnam.
In addition to that, the bilateral cooperation in diplomacy, defense, security, education, tourism, culture, and people-to-people exchange, as well as collaboration at multilateral mechanisms, has also seen significant and substantial development.
In the context that both Vietnam and China are entering a new development stage, the above-mentioned cooperative efforts and achievements not only affirm the positive, solid, stable, and sustainable development trend of bilateral relations but also lay a foundation for both countries to prioritize the consolidation and promotion of their comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
Leaders of the Party, State, and Government of Vietnam welcomes Premier Li Qiang's official visit to Vietnam, primarily to affirm Vietnam’s the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification of relations. This visit aims to deepen ties, strengthen trust while actualizing the foreign policy outlined in the 13th National Party Congress and Vietnam’s consistent policy of valuing and wishing to deepen the friendly, equal, and mutually beneficial relationship with China. The visit also serves as an opportunity for the senior leaders of both countries to engage in in-depth discussions on several important issues, particularly measures to elevate bilateral cooperation.
The people of Hanoi in particular and the Vietnamese people in general warmly welcome Premier Li Qiang and are confident that this visit will further strengthen political trust and promote the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Vietnam and China, leading to new advancements and bringing practical benefits to the peoples of both countries.
