Hang made the statement while answering a reporter’s query about Vietnam’s handling and receiving of Vietnamese nationals deported from the U.S., as President Donald Trump has announced that he will enact a deportation campaign against illegal immigrants or those with prior criminal records, which include Vietnamese.

To date, the two countries have maintained a very close, expeditious and timely cooperation with regard to this matter, Hang noted.

"Vietnam stands ready to maintain close cooperation with the U.S. on the reception of these Vietnamese nationals in line with their previously signed agreements and we hope that the U.S. will continue to provide favorable conditions in terms of residency for Vietnamese nationals thereby contributing to the U.S.'s development and prosperity and serving to further enhance the Vietnam-U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace, Cooperation and Sustainable Development," the spokeswoman told the press.

Also at the press conference, answering reporters' questions about Vietnam's preparations for the risk of a trade war, Hang said, "As an economy with a high degree of openness and increasingly integrating deeply into the world economy, Vietnam always pays attention to and closely monitors the situation and developments of international trade to take appropriate measures, minimize impacts on the economy, and at the same time contribute to the healthy development of international trade. Vietnam is committed to strictly complying with international legal mechanisms, bilateral and multilateral trade commitments, and strengthening international cooperation to build institutions, improve capacity and continue to promote trade liberalization, contributing to the healthy growth of the economy."
