At the reception, PM Phuc said that Vietnam treasures the friendship and Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with India and hopes to develop the bilateral ties in all areas in a intensive manner.
Phuc asked the Indian Foreign Minister to help maintain the political trust between the two countries and foster their cooperation in multiple fields, particularly defense and security - a pillar of bilateral relations, as well as boost Indian businesses’ investment and doing business in power, renewable energy and oil and gas exploitation.
PM Phuc confirmed that Vietnam has supported India’s “Act East” policy and hoped India will speak out for the maintenance of security, safety, freedom of navigation and aviation and law respect, and trade, including the settlement of disputes by peaceful approaches on the basis of international law.
For her part, Indian FM Sushma Swaraj stressed that India wants to further intensify its multifaceted partnership with Vietnam, especially in economics, trade, investment, science-technology, security-defense, and people-to-people exchange.

Earlier on the day, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj co-chaired the 16th Meeting of the Vietnam-India Joint Committee on Economic, Commercial, Scientific, and Technological Cooperation.
At the meeting, both officials highlighted the significant progress in the bilateral ties with several important milestones since the last joint committee’s meeting in 2013.
They spoke highly of the two nations’ close coordination and support for each other at regional and international forums, especially in the United Nations and within the framework of the ASEAN-India partnership and other ASEAN-oriented mechanisms.
Regarding the recent developments in the East Sea, they reaffirmed the importance of maintaining peace, stability, security, safety, and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea.
Concluding the meeting, the two officials signed in the minute of the meeting.
On the occasion, the Ninh Thuan provincial People’s Committee and the Indian Embassy in Vietnam signed a Memorandum of Understanding on implementing seven projects that aim to provide support for Cham people in the province.
The 17th Meeting of the Vietnam-India Joint Committee is scheduled to take place in India in 2020.
