The 2008 turnover of digital products in Vietnam is expected to be US $3.9 billion, up by 25% against 2007, said Director of GfK VN – a market surveying company – Tran Van Khoa on October 25.

As estimated, the consumption of large-size televisions including LCDs and plasmas will sharply rise by a record high. Explaining the rapid growth, Van said several big decreases in the prices of large screen TVs, especially LCDs with a price cut of 70% between June 2006 and June 2007, have enabled consumers to afford them.

What is more, the consumption of electronic household commodities has so far been up by 23%; informatics products 24%; and telephones 29%. 6 million mobile phones valued at US $1 billion are expected to be sold in 2007 and the value may go up to US $1.2 billion in 2008, according to experts.

The result of a 1000-household survey by GfK VN shows that 53% possess LCD TVs and plasmas are their targets in the future.
