EVN Telecom, a subsidiary of the Electricity of Vietnam Group, has announced it will initiate its pan-Asia marine optical cable line in the first quarter of this year, allowing the company to provide telecommunication connections to transit centres in Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, the US and European countries.
The cable line is capable of meeting the increasing demand for broadband and other telecommunication services in the coming years and will serve as a standby for the safety of the national telecommunication network.
EVN Telecom has joined the world and region’s largest optical cable networks, connecting Vietnam to other countries via three international transmission portals in Mong Cai, Lang Son and Moc Bai, said the company’s director, Dinh The Phuc.
In addition to domestic access points, EVN Telecom has opened many others around the world.
The firm now boasts more than 40,000km of optical cable lines connecting 3.5 million subscribers in 63 cities and provinces nationwide.
EVN is using an OPGW cable system on the 500kV, 220kV and 110kV high-tension electric grids, which makes EVN Telecom the safest transmission network in Vietnam.
It is also applying the advanced technology CDMA 2000 1xEV-DO to provide its customers with the best value-added services, including high-speed wireless internet access.
EVN Telecom aims to earn more than VND4 trillion in public telecommunication revenue and raise the number of CDMA subscribers to 4.6 million in 2009.
