Viettel prepares backup batteries and generators to keep stations operational during natural disasters. |
Under the direction of the Ministry of Science and Technology, on July 23, Viettel activated roaming services to allow users of all networks to connect via Viettel’s network in isolated areas. Particularly, Viettel enabled roaming in 16 border communes. In addition, its telecom network in flood-hit communes remains stable, meeting communication and emergency response needs.
Viettel’s network in affected provinces, namely Nghe An, Quang Ninh, Hung Yen, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, and Hai Phong city remain as stable as that in pre-storm conditions. In these localities, demand for Viettel’s mobile services has increased significantly with data usage rising by 7% to 21%.
In addition, Viettel has planned to use drones to transmit signals. Flying at an altitude of 100 meters, drones can create a coverage radius of six kilometers, facilitating the access to flooded, landslide and mountainous areas where roads are blocked and mobile base stations cannot reach, ensuring seamless communication for search and rescue operations.
Before the typhoon, Viettel prepared backup batteries and generators to keep stations operational during natural disasters. It also mobilized 100 station and cable rescue teams, 150 teams for fixed broadband incident handling, and 30 generator repair teams to give timely support to provinces affected by the storm and its circulation. Moreover, communication rescue materials in the provinces maintain high reserve rates. Viettel also stands ready to expand mobile network roaming in areas further affected by flooding, supporting residents to contact and helping rescue operations.
