Shooters in in the men's 10m air pistol team event

The first gold was seized by Tran Quoc Cuong, Phan Cong Minh and Pham Quang Huy, who took the first place in the men's 10m air pistol team event, with 1,713 points. Their Indonesian and Thai opponents obtained the silver and bronze medals with 1,708 and 1,695 points, respectively.

Cuong, the most experienced shooter of Vietnam, also brought home a silver medal on the day for his performance in the men’s 10m air pistol, with Wong Guanjie Johnathan of Malaysia bagging gold and Prabowo Muhammad Iqbal Raia of Indonesia securing the bronze medal.

The Vietnamese shooting squad has so far earned four gold and three silver medals, ranking just behind Indonesia in the tally.

In the men’s 60kg combat event, Nguyen Thanh Liem knocks out his Cambodian rival Eh Ammarin Phouthong to pocket the gold medal.

* Vovinam (Vietnamese martial arts) artists won additional two gold medals on May 19 – the second competition day of Vovinam at the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31).

In the men’s 60kg combat event, Nguyen Thanh Liem knocked out his Cambodian rival Eh Ammarin Phouthong to pocket the gold medal.

Meanwhile, Do Phuong Thao triumphed in the women’s 65kg combat event after defeating Cambodia’s Chuk Somali.

In the performance category, duo Pham Thi Bich Phuong and Truong Thanh won a silver medal, while the gold belonged to Mala Chanthalacksa - Phiksamay Insoumuang of Laos.

After two days, the Vietnamese Vovinam team added three golds and three silvers to the national medal tally.

* The Vietnamese judo team continued to have a successful competition day on May 19 at the ongoing 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31), as they secured two more gold and two bronze medals.

Specifically, Le Anh Tai successfully defended his gold medal in the men’s under-90kg category after defeating his Filipino rival.

Meanwhile, in the women’s under-63kg category, Nguyen Thi Huong triumphed over an Indonesian judoka to pocket her first SEA Games gold medal.

One day earlier, Vietnamese judokas grabbed two gold, one silver and one bronze medals in the men’s Kodokan Goshin Jutsu and women’s Katame No Kata events.

* The Vietnamese wrestling team participated in six men’s events on May 19, the last day of wrestling at the SEA Games 31, and pocketed five gold medals.

Vietnamese wrestlers won the titles in the 57kg, 65kg, 74kg, 86kg and 97kg, and only lost to Laos and dropped to silver in the 125kg category. 

As such, after three days of competition, the team won a total 17 gold medals for Vietnam, marking a successful SEA Games for the sport.

* The Vietnamese karate team performed excellently on May 19, the second day of karate competition during the ongoing SEA Games 31, winning four more golds on the day.

The trio Nguyen Thi Phuong, Luu Thi Thu Uyen and Nguyen Ngoc Tram brought home the gold in women’s team kata.

Two female artists of Vietnam won gold, Bui Thi Thao in women’s kumite over 68kg and Ho Thi Thu Hien in women’s kumite under 68kg, while Do Thanh Nhan pocketed gold in men’s kumite under 84kg.

Meanwhile, the gold in women’s kumite under 55kg went to Sanyistyarani Cok Istri Agung (Indonesia)) and Raghonathan Sharmendran (Malaysia) claimed gold in the men’s kumite under 75kg.

Besides the four golds, Vietnam also had two bronze medals on May 19.

During the day, Indonesia claimed one gold and four silvers, Malaysia one gold and two bronzes, the Philippines three bronzes, Thailand one silver and two bronzes, Cambodia three bronzes and Laos two silvers.

Karate competitions are taking place at the gymnasium of Ninh Binh province from May 18-20, with 15 sets of medals up for grab.
