SEA Games 31: Vietnam surpasses 100 golds
PANO - Vietnam’s wrestling team secured six gold medals in weigh categories from 60kg to 130kg on May 17, contributing to helping the Vietnam delegation bag more than 100 gold medals.

Accordingly, wrestler Bui Tien Hai won gold in the men’s 60kg, while Bui Manh Hung brought home the second gold medal after in the men’s 67kg. Nguyen Ba Son snatched the gold medal in the men’s 77kg category, while Nghiem Dinh Hieu won in the men’s 87kg, winning two more gold medals. Closing the first day of competition, Nguyen Minh Hieu and Ha Van Hieu took two more gold medals in the men’s 97kg and 130kg, respectively.
Besides, sprinter Quach Thi Lan excellently set a record of 56:32 in the women's 400m at SEA Games 31, winning the 14th gold medal for the Vietnamese athletics team, while her peer Nguyen Thi Huyen pocketed a silver medal. In the men’s 400m hurdles category, Quach Cong Lich finished second and won the silver.

With her excellent performance in heptathlon, athlete Nguyen Linh Na of Vietnam made an impressive comeback on May 17, the second competition day of this sport at SEA Games 31, to pocket a gold medal. She earned 5,262 points and received the bronze medal.
Meanwhile, military track and field runner Nguyen Van Lai bagged a gold in the final of men’s 10,000m. He now pocketed two golds at his final SEA Games in his athlete career.
