The Defense Sports Competition 2024 gathered 2,688 coaches and athletes from 43 agencies and units across the military to compete in 12 sports. The regular forces participated in nine events, namely volleyball, tennis, badminton, table tennis, unarmed combat, strong soldier competitions, armed swimming, obstacle courses, and a 3,000m armed run. The militia force competed in combined military exercises, armed swimming, and martial arts.

Competitions took place from September 28 to October 11 at the National Military Training Center No.4, the Commando Officer Training School, the Political Officer Training School, and the Army Officer Training School No.1.

In the regular forces’ category, Military Region 1 took the first place, respectively followed by Military Region 3 and Military Region 5. In the militia force’s category, the top three were Military Region 7, Military Region 3, and the Hanoi Capital Command.

In his closing remarks, Gen. Nghia praised the efforts of the organizing panel, referees, hosting units, and congratulated units and individuals who achieved outstanding results. He emphasized that the competition’s results proved the quality of training and sports movement of regular and militia forces. It clearly reflected the attention of the party committees and chains-of-command at all levels to training work in general and physical training in particular to raise troops’ capability and strength to meet the requirement of Fatherland construction and defense.

To further promote physical training and sports activities within the regular and militia forces, the deputy chief of the General Staff urged agencies and units to enhance dissemination to raise troops’ awareness of the importance of physical fitness to task accomplishment. He encouraged relevant agencies to propose measures to raise the quality of physical training and strengthen sports movements in the whole military.

Outstanding units honored at the event

Prior to the closing ceremony, the team of the Navy triumphed over Military Region 9’s with a score of 3-0 in the men's volleyball final.
