PANO – The 24th Bay Nui (Seven Mountains) cow racing festival – An Giang Cup was kicked off on September 30th at the Tho Mit pagoda’s raceway in Vinh Trung commune, Tinh Bien district, An Giang province.

The cow racing festival this year took place at the same time as people of the Khmer minority ethnic group in the Mekong Delta are observing their Sen Dota festival (lasting from late 8th to early 9th lunar month).

Cow race was recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage last year

Cow race, a traditional cultural event of the Khmer people in southern Vietnam, was recognized as national intangible cultural heritage last year.

This is the second year, the district has authorized the community to organize the festival.

According to the organizing panel, 26 teams, including six from Chau Phu, Chau Thanh and Thoai Son districts (An Giang province) and eight from My Tu (Soc Trang province), Giang Thanh, Hon Dat and Kien Luong (Kien Giang province) districts will join the knockout round.
