PANO - With over 80 years of capturing simple beauty of the capital city of Hanoi in his valuable artistic photos, photographer Le Vuong, born in 1918, was presented with the Grand Award of the Bui Xuan Phai-For the Love of Hanoi 2016.

The award ceremony was jointly held by the Sports and Culture Newspaper of the Vietnam News Agency and the Bui Xuan Phai Foundation on September 8 in Hanoi.

Artist Le Vuong is considered the “secretary” to record beautiful and memorable moments of the capital city, from old streets, street tea stalls to outskirt villages and historical sites with his camera. The elderly artist has spent much time cycling throughout the capital city to capture those precious moments, reflecting all its ups and downs.

The Idea Award went to the municipal program to develop a green space in the capital city by planting one million of trees and building 25 parks, five of which meet international standards, in the next five years.

The Job Award belonged to American James Joseph Kendall and Keep Hanoi Clean group in recognition of their active contributions to the municipal environmental protection. Since this May, James and the group have cleared up canals and drains around Hanoi every Saturday and Sunday.

The Work Award was handed over to the song “Hanoi” by French singer and musician La Grande Sophie and the book titled “Hang Trong-Hanoi Folk Painting” by painter Phan Ngoc Khue.

Initiated in August 2008 on the occasion of the 85th birth anniversary of late famous painter Bui Xuan Phai, the Awards aim to find out and honor authors, works, activities and ideas with good contents of art and science, reflecting every aspect of Hanoi and showing deep love for Hanoi.

The jury members of this time’s Awards are Professor Phan Huy Le, the President of the Vietnam History Association; journalist Ho Quang Loi, Deputy Permanent Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists’ Association; journalist Ngo Ha Thai, Deputy General Director of the Vietnam News Agency; poet Bang Viet, the Chairman of the Hanoi Literature and Art Union, and Associate Professor and Architect Hoang Dao Kinh.
