The Vietnamese national football team climbed three places to 153rd in the latest FIFA rankings, released on September 12.
In doing so, they returned to the top three Southeast Asian teams in the world, behind Thailand, who ranked 139th and the Philippines, 141st.
In the latest rankings, Spain team have held their position as the best team in the world after victory in the last two European Championships and the 2010 World Cup.
In other football news, Vietnam’s U19 team won their second-round match at the ongoing ASEAN Football Championship in Indonesia.
Vietnamese players defeated Malaysian 1-0 and temporarily topped group B with six points.
In later matches in the group, Indonesia played Myanmar and Thailand faced Brunei.
Vietnam are scheduled to meet the hosts on September 13.
The regional championship will conclude on September 22.
