This forum is not only a place for exchange, but also a space to develop joint actions that bring practical benefits to veterans across ASEAN.
In his opening remarks, Gabrien Lema, Director of the National Reserve Agency under the Indonesian Ministry of Defense, emphasized that this event would further strengthen the role of VECONAC as an organization that preserves friendship among nations, while promoting practical efforts to improve the welfare and dignity of ASEAN veterans.

VECONAC will continue to grow stronger and deliver even greater benefits to all its members, he noted, adding the event aims to introduce specific policies to promote and improve the welfare of veterans within VECONAC.
He stressed that the forum demonstrates a shared commitment to mutual support and to reinforcing friendship among veteran organizations in the region, affirming that this spirit of solidarity will help maintain harmony, deepen friendship, and strengthen peace within ASEAN.
ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn stated that this is a valuable forum for shaping the future and sharing knowledge among veterans throughout the region. It is also an opportunity to reaffirm shared values and to define strategic directions that support ASEAN’s priorities.
He underscored the enduring contributions of veterans to regional peace and reaffirmed ASEAN’s commitment to work closely with VECONAC as an entity associated with ASEAN. He further encouraged VECONAC to engage with veterans’ organizations in all ASEAN member states and to continue leveraging its platform to support ASEAN’s vision for an inclusive, resilient, peaceful and secure future.
Truong told Vietnam News Agency correspondents that the event is a great success and recognized the positive and effective contributions of veteran delegations from ASEAN countries, including the Vietnamese delegation.
Since joining VECONAC in 1997, the Vietnam War Veterans Association has always upheld the essence of the Uncle Ho’s soldiers and the tradition of “Loyalty - Solidarity - Exemplarity - Innovation,” actively and responsibly participating in VECONAC.
