The online event saw the participation of leaders and delegates from the Veterans Association of Vietnam (VAVN) and defense attachés of ASEAN countries to Vietnam. In other ASEAN countries, leaders and delegates from VECONAC member countries attended the event.

In his opening remarks, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Duoc said that during 41 years of establishment and development, VECONAC has done its utmost to materialize its goals.

Particularly, VECONAC member countries have carried out increasingly more initiatives, including exchanging delegations and information, sharing experiences, as well as participating in support and development programs, contributing to improving the quality of life for all veterans in each member nation, especially elderly veterans who got injured in wartime.

These practical activities have also brought ASEAN veterans closer, promoting solidarity, friendship, mutual understanding to intensify cooperation for regional and national peace, security and common prosperity.

Overview of the VECONAC-20

Admitted as a regular member of VECONAC in 1997, the Veterans Association of Vietnam has proactively engaged in the confederation’s activities and has had the honor to assume the role of VECONAC Chair for the second time, General Duoc added.

On this occasion, he conveyed his sincere thanks to the leaders and colleagues of VECONAC member countries. Thanks to their trust and assistance, the VAVN has accomplished its important assignment of VECONAC Presidency.

At the event, the general assembly reviewed the implementation of two resolutions adopted at the VECONAN's 19th General Assembly, approved ten submitted resolutions, published financial report, voted for the next VECONAC’s President, and passed a joint communiqué of the VECONAN's 20th General Assembly.

The VECONAC Chairmanship for 2022 handed over to General Santasana Nantibhakhirund, Director - General of the War Veteran Organizations of Thailand

Within the framework of the event, Sr. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Van Duoc handed over the VECONAC Chairmanship for 2022 to General Santasana Nantibhakhirund, Director - General of the War Veteran Organizations of Thailand.

Closing the event, Gen. Duoc affirmed that as the VECONAC Chair in 2020 and 2021, the VAVN has fulfilled assigned duties, including successfully holding three important events: the VECONAC Working Committee, the VECONAC's 33rd Executive Board Meeting and the VECONAC-20.

He believed that the results gained at the VECONAC-20 would meet the interests of the 10 VECONAC member countries, contributing to the shared peace, cooperation and prosperity of the region and the world.
