According to Malaysia’s Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water, the MoU was signed by the three ministers of the respective energy departments on the sidelines of the 34th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.

Malaysia will purchase about 100MW of electricity from Laos’ hydroelectric plants, transmitted through Thailand in 2018.

The deal is part of the initial phase of the ASEAN Power Grid Initiative, a project aiming to enhance energy security in the bloc.
