Opening the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to the U.S. Nguyen Quoc Dung emphasized that as ASEAN - U.S. relations have been elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, cooperation in technology and innovation has become a key driver in advancing the partnership.

He highlighted that while the U.S. is a global leader in AI, ASEAN possesses talented human resources and enabling mechanisms that make it a natural hub for innovation and application, offering significant opportunities for both sides to deepen collaboration based on shared interests and common values.
Participants agreed that both ASEAN and the U.S. are committed to developing responsible and sustainable AI, aimed at building an intelligent, secure, and inclusive society. U.S. congressional and government leaders underscored ASEAN’s importance as a key partner in emerging cooperation fields and affirmed their readiness to support institutional development and encourage American businesses to invest in leading regional markets such as Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.
Looking ahead, delegates concurred that ASEAN - U.S. collaboration on AI should be advanced through the joint creation of an open, safe, and sustainable ecosystem, with complementary roles for governments, legislatures, enterprises, and research institutions in policy development, workforce training, and digital infrastructure building across ASEAN.
Representatives from Google, Equinix, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and Temasek noted that while ASEAN is already a significant market, there remains vast untapped potential for partnership with the U.S.
They recommended that ASEAN countries further enhance their energy supply capabilities, develop high-quality human resources, and refine regulatory frameworks to promote AI growth and business cooperation between ASEAN and U.S. firms.
The forum put forward several concrete ideas and proposals to advance ASEAN - U.S. collaboration in AI, forming a foundation for continued dialogue at upcoming events, such as the ASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting scheduled for next January in Vietnam.
