No Vietnamese arrested for freely expressing their own opinions
PANO - “In Vietnam, there are neither the so-called “prisoners of conscience” nor arrests of people who have freely expressed their own opinions.” This was stated by Foreign Ministry’s Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang at the Foreign Ministry’s regular press conference held on April 5 in Hanoi in answer to reporters’ queries regarding some human rights organizations voicing their condemnation of the trial for six defendants accused of trying to overthrow the people’s administration.

Hang said that Vietnam rejected the inaccurate and subjective information provided by these organizations.
She added that like all other countries in the world, in Vietnam, all violations of the law are handled strictly in line with legal regulations and she also emphasized that ensuring and promoting human rights is the consistent policy of the Vietnamese State, both of which have been implemented in line with Vietnam’s Constitution and law, as well as international conventions on human rights to which Vietnam is a ratified party. Vietnam’s efforts and achievements in ensuring and promoting human rights have been widely acknowledged by the international community.
* In response to reporters’ queries regarding the current US-China trade ties, the Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson said that emerging issues in the trade ties between countries must be addressed in line with the World Trade Organization’s regulations and for the righteous benefits of related sides and contributing to regional and global cooperation, development and prosperity.
