In the first seven months of this year, the number of Cambodian tourists to foreign countries, particularly Vietnam, increased by 29 per cent against last year, according to a statistics of the Cambodia Ministry of Tourism.

During the period under review, about 358,000 Cambodian people traveled to foreign countries while the figure of the same period last year was 296,000. The sharp increase of Cambodian tourists to Vietnam resulted from Vietnam’s visa exemption policy for Cambodians, said Mr. Ho Vandy, Co-Chairman of Tourism Group, under the Cambodian Private Business Forum.

Besides, Vietnam and Cambodia’s permission for more exit and entry vehicles also helped boost the number of Cambodians visiting Vietnam by road, added Mr. Khuy Kry, Director of the Migration Division at Bavet International Border Gate.

At present, 50 per cent of Cambodian people come to Vietnam for medical treatment and the remainder for tourism and business purposes.
