After nearly five years of implementation, Quang Nam has gradually affirmed its position as a green tourism destination in the region and globally. This success is demonstrated through ASEAN tourism awards, green tourism certification from Travelife, the recognition of the World Tourism Organization for Tra Que vegetable village. Moreover, many destinations and communities have been honored with prestigious domestic and international awards.
Son said the results were attributable to the effective coordination between departments, agencies, and localities, especially the active support and companionship from the SECO and the Swiss Sustainable Tourism Project in Vietnam (ST4SD). Through the project, Quang Nam has completed and applied seven sets of green tourism criteria for accommodation, travel, sightseeing, community tourism and catering services.
To date, 33 enterprises have been certified by the provincial People's Committee for green tourism. Green tourism models have contributed to shaping the brand "Quang Nam - Green tourism destination," contributing to raising awareness, creating a ripple effect among the business community, people and tourists in conserving resources and sustainable development.
Project Team Lead Olivier Messmer said that the workshop aimed to share Swiss experiences and initiatives that can be applied to Quang Nam; management experience and participation of stakeholders through the Tra Que vegetable village sustainable tourism model, along with the possibility of replicating this model on a large scale.
Participants also shared solutions for developing green tourism after the merger of Quang Nam province and Da Nang city.
