The volunteers were selected among 78 doctors who graduated with good academic records from Hanoi Medical University and other medical universities across the country. They received an intensive training program after being sent to work in provinces including mountainous and border areas and on islands.

Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien and the young doctors
Speaking at the ceremony, the Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien emphasized that this project is a breakthrough in the health sector in ensuring sufficient human resources for locals’ health in disadvantaged areas. Therefore, the project is expected to help the needy access better health care services, contributing to reducing overcrowded patients at higher level hospitals and saving money for people, community and society.

On the occasion, Minister Tien also presented a photo of great physician Hai Thuong Lan Ong to seven doctors to encourage them to fulfill their mission in the future.

The project was approved by the Health Ministry in 2013 to give priority to 62 poorest districts with the aim of improving medical services in these localities.
