UNICEF Representative in Vietnam Rana Flowers addresses the event.

The World Children’s Day, falling on November 20, is observed annually to celebrate the day when the U.N. Convention on the Right of the Child (CRC) was ratified in 1989 to boost the right of all children.

Addressing the event, UNICEF Representative in Vietnam Rana Flowers informed that a number of celebration activities have been held nationwide since early this month. Among them is the joint launch of the initiative “Football without limits” by UNICEF, the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training and the National School Sports Association. The aim of this initiative is to provide football and related essential skills for students, especially female students, at over 30,000 schools nationwide. The initiative will be carried out in coming years as well.

Delegates sign commitment to further prioritizing children's issues.

As the first country in the region to ratify the Convention on the Right of the Child in 1990, Vietnam has made great progress for its 27 million children, ensuring that all of them stay healthy, safe, educated, protected and empowered to reach their full potential. With the achievements obtained, Vietnam now can speak loudly and offer solutions to the challenges facing children.

The World Children's Day opens up an opportunity to strengthen shared commitment to prioritizing children's issues. Commitment is needed to ensure that greater investment from the government in gender-sensitive social protection for children and essential social fields is delivered in a timely manner and that all involved people are responsible for creating changes to achieve the sustainable development goals for children.
