Wheelchairs presented to AO/dioxin victims
PANO - The Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange (AO)/dioxin (VAVA) on May 11 presented wheelchairs to AO/dioxin victims in Hanoi and Bac Giang province.
Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Rinh, VAVA Chairman, handed over the wheelchairs to representatives of the victims.
The wheelchairs will be transported to provinces and cities in compliance with regulations on COVID-19 prevention and control.
Addressing the event, the leader of the VAVA’s Central Committee said though the national economy has been affected by natural disasters and COVID-19 pandemic, the association could call for more supports for AO/dioxin victims from individual and collectives, sponsors inside and outside the country.
Especially, the VAVA’s Central Committee and authorities at all levels mobilized all sources to support the victims as this year marks the 60th anniversary of the AO/dioxin disaster in Vietnam (August 10, 1961 - October 8, 2021) – “The year of action for AO/dioxin victims”. Over the past years, the British Committee for Medical and Scientific Aid for Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia (MSAVLC) has rendered much support for the AO/dioxin victims. This year alone, the organization supported the VAVA with USD 35,000 to buy and present over 500 wheelchairs to AO/dioxin victims in over 50 provinces and cities.
On May 11, 15 wheelchairs were granted to the victims in Hanoi and 10 others to those in Bac Giang province, to help them partly ease the difficulties in life they are facing.
